Gerald was a cheerful, cheeky, much loved character who enjoyed a pint of bitter and a game of darts with friends at the local pub. Like many, Covid-19 hit the elderly hard, and without the regular contact with friends our dad slowly became detacthed and isolated.
He never once complained, but while memory loss is a common symptom of dementia, memory loss by itself does not mean that a person has dementia. Risk factors associated with dementia increase with age, they also lose their ability to solve problems and maintain emotional control, and they may experience personality changes and behavioral problems, such as agitation, delusions, and hallucinations. We (our family) would like to raise awareness into the research and diagnosis of dementia in the UK.
Dementia Research UK is a registered charity promoting research into the prevention and treatment of dementia and the care of those suffering from dementia. While research has the ultimate aim of eradicating dementia it can also be aimed at improving the lives of dementia sufferers and their carers.
A much loved tribute to our dad - you will be forever in our hearts ❤️
